Crucial Difference is an emerging collaboration between seasoned educators and practitioners. We bring a strong social and ethical conscience to our work, coupled with curiosity and a passion for research in practice. We are connecting, extending, and deepening ourselves and our community of coaches and supervisors.

Within EMCC we encounter people who live and breathe the values of the organisation, bringing it to life whilst engaging others in sharing stories that uphold and uplift us all. This – along with its foundational history – made EMCC our primary choice for course accreditation. We believe it to be a progressive practitioner community, offering a thriving, robust professional community for ourselves and our graduates. Our EMCC alliance is supported by our first Russian-speaking cohort, our partners in Romania and in the Baltics. At a time when nations and regions are in danger of fragmenting, we are choosing to demonstrate our commitment to forging European and global community links.

Our first Coaching Supervision programme was in Russian! We embraced and enjoyed this enormous learning opportunity, becoming adept in the nuances of working through a translator: using visuals, tone, pace and phrasing; avoiding jargon and acronyms; adapting to cultural and other differences; and leveraging the use of small groups. The programme enables and challenges. Underpinned by robust psychological and behavioural understanding it brings cutting edge translations of complexity-thinking and natural inclusion to supervision practice alongside well-established supervision theory and frameworks. This complex programme challenges participants to shift their cognitive, emotional and sensory understanding of the world, themselves and their practice. Participants and team are held by Essence Behaviours which we witness and illuminate throughout the process of learning. Engagement with these provides a strong container for reflective practice.

Bio

Jo Birch works as a confidant and executive coach with exceptional people across the globe. Through living and working in multi-cultural communities, Jo specialises in cross-cultural work, with individuals and teams. With an acute ability to absorb systemic dynamics Jo immerses herself within organisations and communities – works at all levels, skilfully supporting individuals at every stage of their leadership and development journey, to effect whole-system change. Through Crucial Difference, an initiative with Graham Wilson and Louie Gardiner, Jo designs and delivers Certificate & Diploma in Coaching Supervision; and Alchemist learning opportunities. Currently running an innovative online Cert in Coaching Supervision in partnership with International University Global Coaching Moscow; and from Feb 2020, in partnership with Best People in Town, a blended programme in Romania. Jo continues her long history with CSA Asia Pacific, working alongside Leanne Lowish & Felicia Lauw in Singapore.
